AI4 Sustainability Training Course

 The AI4 Sustainability Training Course took place in Leiria, Portugal, from 9–13 February, and brought together 20 teachers to develop technical knowledge and practical skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

The training program included:

  • An overview of AI-powered educational tools and technologies, with a strong focus on inclusivity and gender equality in STEM education.

  • A presentation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, combined with an exploration of AI tools that provide real-time environmental and climate data to support effective lesson planning.

  • Hands-on workshops on using AI assistants, algorithms, and software to design and prepare STEM lessons that actively encourage girls’ participation in science and technology.

  • Collaborative sessions dedicated to creating AI-supported digital lessons and simulations, integrating topics related to environmental sustainability and climate change.

  • Team-based work in which teachers design SDG-oriented lesson plans, integrating AI into environmental education and applying gender-responsive teaching strategies.

 Evaluation, Reflection, and Action Planning

  • Group presentations of AI- and SDG-based lesson plans and educational resources, with particular emphasis on gender inclusivity and environmental awareness.

  • Facilitated discussions on best practices, challenges, and effective strategies for implementing AI-supported approaches to support girls in STEM education.

  • A final reflection session and action planning, focused on the organization of four SustAI@nability Champions conferences.
